The Delhi government has enforced a mandatory 50% work-from-home policy for all companies in the capital, effective December 18, 2025. Aimed at curbing air pollution and easing traffic congestion, the directive requires that only half of employees be present in offices at any given time, with the remainder working remotely. Non-compliance could result in penalties and legal action.

Delhi WFH 50%

What Does This Mean for Your Company?

If your company has employees working in Delhi, you must restructure your office operations right away. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Split your workforce into two groups: 50% in-office, 50% work-from-home
  • Rotate schedules or create a fixed split between teams
  • Ensure your work-from-home infrastructure supports remote work
  • Exclude essential services (hospitals, emergency services, utilities)

What Can You Do About It?

This is likely a temporary measure tied to air quality levels, however a straightforward plan for you to follow could include:

  1. Assess your workforce – Determine which employees can work remotely and which roles require office presence
  2. Set up a rotation system – Create a fair schedule that keeps operations running smoothly
  3. Prepare remote work tools – Ensure VPNs, collaboration software, and security measures are in place
  4. Communicate with your team – Brief employees on the new policy and expectations
  5. Track compliance – Keep records showing that you’re meeting the 50/50 split
