Leanne Yacamini’s Career Journey at activpayroll
Leanne started as a Global Payroll Coordinator as part of the early expansion of the Global Payroll division, laying the foundations for what would become a growing client base and the introduction of activ8. The early focus was on building customer and partner networks and managing month-to-month operations. She progressed into a senior role in the Global Payroll team, taking on more complex payroll responsibilities and supporting the training and development of junior colleagues.
“I loved being able to share my knowledge and help develop others,” Leanne recalls.
Following maternity leave in 2017, Leanne returned as a Payroll Operations Support Analyst, a role bridging payroll and operations teams. She refined processes and led special projects including the Germany payroll migration, the E&D Dashboard build, and the Staffology project.
“I felt ready for a new challenge as my children got older, and I wanted to push myself further,” she explains.
In July 2025, she moved into her current role as Business Improvements Manager, supporting the CEO and management team to identify and deliver business-critical projects across multiple units and geographies.

Taking on Leadership Responsibilities
Leanne has always been motivated by opportunities to learn, grow, and take on responsibility.
“One of the most rewarding aspects has been helping colleagues develop while also taking on more challenging roles myself,” she says.
A key challenge she faced was managing urgent projects under pressure, such as when a US payroll partner liquidated and she had less than two weeks to transition the entire US payroll client base and deliver the next payroll run.
“It was a period of long hours and high pressure, but completing the task successfully was a huge achievement,” Leanne reflects.
Building Relationships and Networks
Relationships have been central to Leanne’s career development.
“Over the years I have been fortunate to work with incredible teams. Building strong relationships through a friendly demeanour and a can-do attitude has been vital,” she says. “It’s these networks that help you succeed, both internally and externally.”
Lessons Learned Along the Way
Leanne emphasises that payroll work is about people as much as numbers.
“Empathy is crucial, whether dealing with colleagues or customers,” she explains. “Understanding perspectives, listening, and adapting your approach is key to success.”
Bringing activpayroll Values to Life
Accountability is a value Leanne applies every day.
“As a busy mum and a manager, I try to live by accountability. If you commit to something, you see it through. Mistakes happen, but owning them and completing the task is what matters,” she says.
A Career Highlight
Leanne is particularly proud of contributing to the growth of the Global Payroll division.
“When I joined in 2009, the team was small and covered all aspects of global payroll for just a few clients. Watching the team grow, expanding our client base, and seeing processes and systems evolve has been incredibly rewarding,” she recalls.
A Word of Advice
Drawing on her experience, Leanne shares practical guidance for anyone looking to grow their career.
“Always be a team player! activpayroll has been built on collaboration and partnerships and those key principles should always feed back into the people who work here,”
