On Saturday 10 March 2018, over 100 women attended Maggie’s Centre in Aberdeen for a ‘Fizz Afternoon’ organised by activpayroll. The event aimed to raise vital funds for the charity while giving those that attended a fun filled afternoon.

CEO of activpayroll, Alison Sellar and Business Services Director, Sian Odgers, have been supporters of Maggie’s for many years, having taken part in Ride the North, Culture Crawl and Balmoral 10K in aid of the charity, however have more recently become Maggie’s Board Members. This new role inspired them to host an event for Maggie’s that was a little different.

Although open to the public Monday to Friday, the beautifully designed Maggie’s Centre sits unoccupied over the weekend, creating the unique opportunity to host an event within the centre. With the help of Centre Fundraising Manager, Paula Cormack and a number of volunteers, the event was a huge success and raised over £4,600 for the charity.

Tickets were sold at £25 and included prosecco, afternoon tea and fantastic entertainment from magician Garry Seagraves and singer John Duncan. Additional funds were raised through raffle ticket sales, gin bar donations and additional drinks. 100% of the money raised has gone directly to Maggie’s so that the centre can continue to offer free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their families and friends.

Alison Sellar, CEO of activpayroll, said: “I am absolutely over the moon that the event was such a success, when we first came up with the idea of hosting a ladies afternoon in the centre, I never thought the outcome would be so phenomenal. The amount of raffle prizes that local businesses donated was truly overwhelming and really shows the community spirit in Aberdeen when it comes to a cause that affects so many. The centre benefits many people across the North-East and the event was a great opportunity for those that have never been to Maggie’s to see inside the centre.”

On behalf of everyone at activpayroll, we would like to thank all the individuals and businesses that kindly supported the event by donating to the raffle:
