This September 2025, the Osaka Prefectural Government has announced an increase to the region’s minimum wage, set to take effect on 16 October 2025. The new rate will be ¥1,177 per hour, marking a significant step in Japan’s ongoing efforts to improve wage standards and support workers amid rising living costs.

Key details

New Minimum Wage Rate: ¥1,177/hour

Effective Date: 16 October 2025

Scope: Applies to all employees working in Osaka Prefecture, except those covered by industry-specific minimum wages that exceed ¥1,177/hour.

This adjustment reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring fair compensation across sectors, while recognising that some industries, such as manufacturing and hospitality, may already operate under higher wage thresholds.
