Business Analyst

Aberdeen or Edinburgh, Scotland — Technical Implementation


The Business Analyst shall be responsible for the successful implementation and support of the activ8 application globally.

The Business Analyst shall be responsible for accurately soliciting and documenting the configuration and customisation requirements from customers for activ8.

The Business Analyst shall be responsible for ensuring that any configuration and customisation effort undertaken for a customer is fit for purpose.

The Business Analyst shall be responsible for performing demonstrations and training of activ8 functionality internally and externally.

The Business Analyst shall be responsible for establishing best practice in relation to activ8 usage internally and externally.


Principal Duties

  • Liaising with customers to establish and document scope of configuration and customisations to activ8
  • Liaising with activTechnology team to establish estimated effort/costs for configuration/customisation work
  • Ensuring any configuration and customisation effort undertaken is accurately and effectively performed (by liaising with the customer, Global Projects, CTO, and activTechnology)
  • Ensuring effective communication of key project deadlines and maintaining project documentation
  • Establishing and maintaining best practice for activ8 use internally and externally
  • Participating in testing cycles for activ8 product releases
  • Assisting with the production of User Guides and training material for activ8 releases
  • Providing activ8 support for the customer and the activpayroll Payroll, activ8 and activTechnology teams
  • Conducting training, demonstrations and meetings both internally and externally
  • Compliance with company procedures

Service Excellence

  • Responding efficiently to activ8 queries (internally and externally) via email and telephone
  • Ensuring that any issues/problems are escalated appropriately (particularly in accordance with any relevant SLA that may be in place)
  • Ensuring that activ8 configuration/customisations are performed in accordance with any agreed schedule

Team Focus

  • Management and prioritization of allocated work on a day to day basis
  • Ensuring effective communication of changes or delay to key project deadlines to Technical Implementation Manager.
  • Covering for the Technical Implementation Manager on activ8 related items such as demonstrations and queries when the Technical Implementation Manager is absent or unavailable
  • Providing guidance and support to Global Projects and payroll teams

Commercial Awareness

  • Have a basic understanding and appreciation of the relative aspects of Financial Accounting
  • Have a basic knowledge of end to end payroll processes
  • Possess a detailed understanding of target time allocated to the individual activ8 services
  • Showing initiative with new ideas
  • Assisting the Information Technology Manager in looking at ways to improve activ8 profitability


  • Experience of implementing and supporting IT applications covering at least 2 years
  • Excellent client service & pro-active communication skills
  • Strong positive attitude with the ability to lead and motivate
  • Ability to communicate positively with team and department members and to provide direction and clear instruction
  • Advanced excel skill and word skills
  • Expert knowledge of IT applications and their deployment
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of company procedures and process and be able to ensure they are adhered to by the activ8 team
  • A strong emphasis on accuracy and quality
  • Ability to multi-task and to co-ordinate a series of different jobs concurrently
  • Ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines
  • Competent oral and written communication skills, with ability to evaluate queries and advise

  • Assisting the IT Department in achieving identified quality standards during the performance and delivery of the work
  • Successfully assisting the CTO to achieve IT Department goals and objectives
  • Achieving identified targets and efficiency improvements for activ8 team
  • Compliance with company process and procedures
  • Customer satisfaction and resolution of issues
  • Compliance with UK Employment and Data Protection legislation
  • Providing assistance to the activ8 team and the CTO to implement process improvements
  • Assisting the CTO with the managing of the activ8 application to ensure that it meets the service level agreements and requirements of the customers
